Friends Board Member Description and Expectations

We strive to provide safe, loving and life building recovery homes for those who suffer from substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions seeking recovery to live productive and meaningful lives.

Purpose

Formed in July 2026, the Living in Victory Recovery Sober Living (“LIV”) Friends Board is a dynamic group of professionals who have teamed together to combine their amazing talents with a common interest of helping people in recovery in the St. Louis community.

Major Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and community outreach by planning and executing at least one flagship fundraising event and several contributory fundraising events annually.
  • Support of other LIV events and initiatives.
  • Recruitment and development of Friends Board Members.
  • Promotion of the organization’s mission and programs.

Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of LIV. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on their experience and vantage point in the community.

Length of Term

Each Member shall serve for a one (1) year term and is eligible to serve for as many additional terms as the Member chooses, as long as the Member is in good standing.

Meetings and Time Commitment

  • The Friends Board meets six times annually. Meetings are typically held bi-monthly on the second Monday of the month from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Each Member serves on at least one event-planning committee, which meets as needed, varying in frequency depending on the timing of the event and committee responsibilities.

Expectations of Directors

  • Attend and actively participate in meetings on a regular basis, attending a minimum of four meetings per year. Members are encouraged to attend meetings in person, but Members may attend virtually at their discretion.
  • Contribute at least $1,000 to LIV per year, which can be generated through a combination of obtaining business sponsorships, obtaining donations such as gift cards or raffle items, selling tickets to our events, or directly contributing through cash or in-kind donations.
  • Support LIV as a whole by volunteering at other LIV events and initiatives as your schedule allows.
  • Help communicate and promote the LIV mission and programs to the community.
